Water Pumps

A water pump is a mechanical component in the cooling system of a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) that circulates coolant through the engine to help regulate its temperature. The water pump is driven by a belt or chain connected to the engine crankshaft and it pumps coolant from the radiator, through the engine and back again, to absorb heat generated by the combustion process in the engine. Water pumps are typically located on the front of the engine, near the timing belt or timing chain. They consist of a impeller that spins inside a housing, drawing coolant in and pushing it out to circulate through the engine. As the impeller spins, it creates pressure that forces the coolant to flow through the hoses and passages in the engine, absorbing heat and helping to keep the engine at the proper operating temperature. Water pumps are an essential component of the cooling system, and are critical for the proper operation of the engine. A malfunctioning water pump can cause the engine to overheat and cause damage to the engine. Therefore, it is important to have the water pump inspected and serviced regularly, as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer, to ensure that it is working properly and that the vehicle is safe to operate.
