Brake Camshafts

Brake camshafts on a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) are a mechanical component that converts the linear motion of the brake pedal into rotary motion which is used to actuate the brake calipers. The camshaft is typically located near the brake pedal and is connected to it via a lever. When the brake pedal is pressed, the lever moves and rotates the camshaft. The camshaft has cams or lobes on it that push the brake caliper pistons when it rotates, which in turn squeezes the brake pads against the rotor, creating friction that slows and stops the vehicle. The brake camshafts are designed to provide a consistent brake force and reduce the wear on other brake components.
